Statement by Syria at the Fifth Session of the Conference on the Establishment of a Middle East Zone Free of Nuclear Weapons and other WMD
Syria considers the dire situation in the Middle East as a reason for establishing an ME WMDFZ. The foundational bases for creating the zone should be accession to relevant multilateral legal instruments governing WMDs and adherence to other relevant obligations and prohibitions. Israel’s recent threats to use nuclear weapons indicate its possession of such weapons. The primary reason for the failure to establish the ME WMDFZ is Israel's refusal to join the conference and its continued possession of WMDs outside international oversight.Ouvrir le document
